The scholarship is awarded once a year at WCHS Senior Honors Night.
The vision of the scholarship is to award the scholarship to a student that most nearly exemplifies Monica’s true personality, character, ethics and her genuine caring nature. One of her greatest strengths was displaying this caring nature for people from many different backgrounds and cultures.
Applicants must fill out the basic information, including membership and participation in groups, answer a few essay questions and list their GPA. The scholarship is unique in that it is not based solely on academics, so anyone is eligible and encouraged to apply. Past awards have been based on more than just an applicant’s GPA – instead, the recipient must be a more well rounded individual, someone who is involved, a natural leader, has good grades and good aspirations.
Another unique feature of the scholarship is that the applicant is required to submit a Letter of Recommendation from a friend. This reflects Monica’s high value on friendships.
The Scholarship selection committee is comprised of members of the Combs family, four High School teachers and a High School Guidance Counselor. The Committee meets and reviews every application and makes a decision as a whole.
Students can pick up an application from the High School Guidance Counselor’s office or download it here. The applications begin processing in Mid-April.
